What if public ChatGPT chats became a new lever of visibility and authority for brands online?
You have probably seen several posts about ChatGPT's public conversations — and, in particular, the fact that Google can reach them.

You have probably seen several posts about ChatGPT's public conversations — and, in particular, the fact that Google can reach them.
How much weight should we give that?
Three limits are worth stating before anyone jumps to conclusions:
-
After a great many tests, I found very few results like the famous screenshot passed around in other posts.
-
Ordinary keyword searches, outside a structure such as "site: chat.openai.com" (at least the ones I tried), almost never return this content.
-
By default, conversations on GPT are not public. The volume that actually gets indexed will therefore stay limited.
And yet we also know that GPT looks up certain sources on traditional search engines, and that over time this kind of content could feed its future answers.
A virtuous circle, or a snake biting its own tail? Hard to say for now.
We are still in a phase of exploration, of tests, of trials. Brands have nothing to lose by experimenting with this channel, and by watching whether these conversations become sources for the answers AI gives.
